Rip Chelsea and Joshua Silva

The second victim has been identified from a three-car crash Thursday on U.S. Highway 101 near Garberville.
Chelsea Silva, 17, from Grants Pass, Ore., was ejected from a Dodge 3500 truck along with the driver, 25-year-old Joshua Silva of Willits, according to the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Department. Chelsea was pinned under the truck and pronounced dead at the scene. Her name was not immediately released pending notification of next of kin.
Joshua was taken to Ukiah Valley Medical Center and pronounced dead at the hospital.
A California Highway Patrol press release said the preliminary investigation indicated that Joshua and Chelsea Silva were driving southbound in the Dodge 3500 truck on U.S. Highway 101 and passing a slower-moving tractor-trailer over double yellow lines, almost hitting a neighboring Dodge 1500 pickup truck.
As the Dodge 3500 reentered the southbound lane, it sideswiped the other truck directly into the left front corner of the tractor-trailer. The Dodge 3500 continued into and over the guard rail on the west side of the road. It dropped to the ground below, rolling several times and ending up about 100 feet below the highway.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, Thomas Dean Wright, 49, of Eureka, and the driver of the Dodge 1500 truck, Patricia Leon Mejia, 66, of Vallejo, immediately pulled over and were not injured.
