HWY 395 South

This photo was taken just off of HWY 395 south of Carson
city.

We have been doing a lot of driving over the past few
days.  We travelled from Sonora
California north on Hwy 49 in a huge rain storm. Then we travelled east toward
Lake Tahoe.  That was a long steep climb
for my old car to make, but we made it over the pass before the approaching
storm added any more snow to the pass.  Spent
that night in Carson City Nevada, the wonderful thing about traveling by car is
observing the subtle but sudden change in the land. East of the Sierra Nevada
rain shadow the land is dry, open and arid.

Yesterday Marina and I made the fairly long drive south from
Carson City to bishop California on Hwy 395.
I was carefully and nervously watching my car as we passed an ’8000 ft’
marker on the side of the highway.  Fortunately
we began to drop in elevation as we came in to the valley that Bishop is
located.

I have always had an appreciations for this kind of
Landscape; big skies, simple wide open landscapes and mountain vistas. I think
it should be a fun part of the adventure travelling south toward Death Valley.
