Billy Newman | Spring Walk

I’ve been working on a collection of new film photos over the past month. This image was made with my nikon n80 film camera. An old hand me down from my cousin. Happy to be getting some real work out of it.

while I am working with film, I try to be more able give with my composition.  I am rarely trying to produce the next greatest photograph. I want these photos to capture more of a mood. In this photo I really like the soft low evening light that back lights the grass and flowers. Shooting wide open at f1.8 is an overused gimmick in slr photography, maybe not a ‘gimmick’ – more like a name drop, but I like the sureal soft look it adds to my images.  Surrealism, Impressionism, that’s what I want. I always made a bad photojournalist. Realism is boring.
