Spring Break Road Trip

I spent the last few days on a road trip through northern California. I have to say that I had a really good time. Travelled light and cheap, and I feel like I went everywhere that I wanted to go.

I was lucky that I didn’t have to deal with too much snow over the course of the trip but 140 was kinda ruff for a bit.

On Monday I made it over to Klamath Falls and then down to The Lava beds in northern California. Its a really cool place to spend the day. There are tons of caves to go in and explore at your own pace. That evening we drove south to Lake Shasta to camp. Then the next morning got up and drove south into redding to steal some wifi and to get some coffee. Had lunch in Chico, then made it down to Clearlake Ca. later that afternoon. The rain started getting to us a bit, but we spent some time charging cell phones and picking up some supplies including marshmellows.

That evening we ended up camping off the raod somewhere in st. helena.  Rained all night but we were able to stay dry in the car.

The next day the weather broke and we were able to explore more of the Napa valley area.  Stopped off at a winery and spent some time learning more about some local wine.

That afternoon we made it down to San Francisco. I parked on the North end of the golden gate at the marin headlands.  Ended up walking about 5 1/2 miles through San Francisco. Walked across the Golden gate, then over to the Palace of Fine arts. then up to Lombard street and all the way up to the Wharf.

Took this photo of the city skyline from Treasure Island, we were lucky that we had pretty clear weather.

Camped at a really cool spot up in the marin headlands over by the hostel.  Got up early the next morning in the rain, took a shower at the youth hostel for 2 dollars. Then drove all the way back to K falls, and then to Grants pass. Got home around 10:00 pm and finished my road trip at 1202.3 miles.
