Now that it is the start of the year and people are starting to get their data for their upcoming business I think it is time to talk about backing up your photo libraries.
Hard drives feel all the time. I recently had a 4 TB hard drive failed in December. Thankfully the data was backed up on other drives around me. However, I did lose some data that was not critical. Still, it is frustrating, and it is a good reminder to have current backups and more of them than you think.
Back Up Your Photos
My strategy is that every file, including my Lightroom catalog files, be on three hard drives, one of which is always offsite.
While I am at home I work on my MacBook, my files and photo libraries are all on an external drive. These files are backed up to a larger attached external drive in duplicate. Every week or after I finish a larger project, I back up that data to another 4 TB drive to be kept off-site.
All of my personal and business administration files go to iCloud or Google Drive. This includes pictures of licenses passports fishing licenses hunting licenses recreation passes and trip itineraries. Including maps, paper maps, and checklists. All of my photographs are stored as JPEG files with Amazon photos. Every few weeks or after a large project I run a cloud back up to Amazon photos to store the images in the cloud.
