Hello, and thank you very much for listening to this episode of The Billy Newman photo podcast. My name is Newman. And today, I wanted to get back into podcasting. I guess it’s the answer. I’ve taken a couple of months off as I’ve been moving around and changing some stuff up. I’ve been living in Hawaii for the last couple of months, which has been interesting. And I think that’s, that’s no reason to stop podcasting, right. So I’ve reset some of the gear and tried to set things up so that I can keep recording audio and keep putting stuff out. And I’m also restructuring it a little bit. So that that it’s going to be, I guess, more straightforward, to consistently put out more pieces of content, more pieces audio. And then I’m also trying to set it up so that I have some more stuff to talk about as I go through. And, and kind of record some of these episodes. But I think the way that it’s going to go from here on out, what I’m hoping to do at least is, is set it up so that that Marina and I when we do a podcast, we’re going to record that and call it the golden hour experience podcast, which I’m pretty excited to put together, I’m just setting up that feed now. And with that, we’re going to be setting up golden hour experience calm and golden hour wedding calm. And those two sites are going to be where we try and do a lot of our business, which is going to be cool. And we’re really excited to be getting into that. But I think we’re going to be working with the podcast to talk about our experience with working and photographing weddings as we get into that. And as we start setting up things for the golden hour experience, side of the business, which is going to be working with outdoor adventure tourism companies as we try and generate content that would include photographs and videos that companies will use for marketing purposes or content purposes, however, they’d want to do it so so that’s, that’s what we’re, we’re really excited to start jumping into. And, and also just kind of as our own content marketing stuff, it’s going to be pretty interesting to get into, you know, the outdoor adventure tourism side of it, where we really love the landscape side of photography, and shooting photos of the outdoors and photos of like the camping experience, all that sort of stuff. So we’re going to be trying to contact people and sort of get into that, but But yeah, when Marina and I do a podcast together, that’s going to be a conversation between us as photographers and sort of what our experiences going through and working as photographers sort of in the modern-day and just sort of sort of what, what it is for us to be, you know, working with equipment or working with clients or working, you know, in the business. So we’re going to probably talk a lot about photography gear, which I think is always going to be cool. And I really like having those kind of conversations about, like, what kind of cameras we’re using, or what kind of cameras are coming out? What are the advantages of certain things. And then we’re also gonna be talking about sort of the, the equipment and the technology and the gear that sort of surrounding photography, like laptops or the software’s or anything, you can probably imagine even audio equipment, like what we’re using right now, just in the in the sense not really like a reviews system or you know, like a gear review sort of site, it’s not really that but, but more in the idea of, of talking about what it is, as a photographer to be, you know, working and experiencing using someone’s equipment, and just how it is to try and get through it, you

know, I don’t know is it could be, it could be anything. And probably anything I’ve mentioned right now it’s kind of kitschy or silly, but we’re really excited to be putting that together. I’m just sitting at the feet now. And we’re going to be starting to make a podcast around that you pretty soon. And then the billing and photo podcast, the podcast you’re listening to right now is going to be, I guess, not really changed too much. But it’s just going to be sort of narrowed down a little bit where it’s going to be, I think like a solo podcast, or I’m going to try and do some some podcasting, where I’m just kind of going through and talking about my experiences, photographer and some of the pieces and items that I’m working on and probably like talking about some of the content that I’m trying to put up to some of the projects that I’m working on. So I’m sure there’s gonna be a lot of overlap between that podcast and then the podcast that I’m doing as a conversation with Marina. But, but I’m really looking forward to both of them. And I think it’s gonna be interesting trying to put those two pieces together over time. So So this podcast, I want to try and keep, you know, maybe on the shorter end, and the other one is going to be something that’s a little more extensive as we get into a few more of the bigger ideas is how we use equipment and what we’re up to in the projects that we’re working on as photographers, this one is probably going to be a little shorter about like the the types of the types of projects that I’m trying to set up just to kind of the smaller bits of photography ideas that I’m working on are kind of working over that day. But But yeah, I’ve been really interested to try and get back into the podcasting stuff, the audio recording and content stuff for a while. And I’m looking forward to doing it in this manner where it’ll probably be pretty easy for us to record a lot of stuff and put it out over time. So looking forward to it, but But yeah, what I’ve been doing so far is dealing with like a ton of stuff around my website, the Billy Newman photo doc Um, website I had, I had like a bunch of development stuff that had to do with it. So I’ve been like on tech tech support for a long time. I don’t know, if you guys had to do much of that stuff with your own websites, and there’s like, there’s so much to WordPress, I mean, there’s probably like a lot to WordPress as it is, with just the way that it’s sort of engineer or, you know, just the simple way, when everything’s working, you have to put stuff together and keep things up to date. And, you know, keep things moving as the internet sort of moves along. But what I’ve been having to do is like, go into the hosting side of it, go into like the server side of it, and figure out what was going on wrong in my cPanel. Like, I wasn’t even able to load my site for the longest time. So I’ve been on on tech support for a long time trying to figure out, just like, what was going on in the background, and how to like, how to replace files in the WordPress, like, you know, like the, I guess the core files of WordPress, how I go through and replace replace those since they’d become damaged, without like losing the data and losing all the content that I put up on my website over the years. So it was interesting to kind of figure that out. There’s a lot of challenges that were that through the last couple of weeks, but but I think most of us are resolved now. That’s probably why you’re able to capture the audio from this podcast now is there’s finally somewhere that exists, where the podcast is and where the podcast is being served. So it seems like I would have figured it out. Otherwise, I guess I hadn’t figured it out. So I’m glad that I’m trying to do it. But yeah, I’ve been kind of working on that side of it. And then I’m also working on some of the distribution side of it, like I’m checking out anchor.com, or excuse me, anchor.fm, which is like a podcast, audio and guessing service or networking service. Way back in the day, when I first started my podcast, OSU in review back in like 2007, like the one of the first podcast that at the university that I went to when I was going into college, which I kind of did in tandem with like the the university radio station, it was kind of fun to get into but, but way back then there was just like so few sort of few ways for podcasting to work. It was stuff like pod bean, or my podcast calm, and a lot of those would put like weird pre rolls in your podcast, or they would they just have like really bad JavaScript flash players, that would hardly work when you try and embed them on your site. And now like, you know, none of those links work because those those companies have gone out of business years ago. So and, and then like, you know, like, on top of that just the

type of audio recording equipment that I was using to try and capture the podcast was super limited at the time, too, there really wasn’t much. Well, I guess like for my budget, you know, just as like a college kid, there really wasn’t a lot of equipment for me to use, you know, I have like a little four-track mixer that I would try and run the two mics into. And then that would just go straight into my sound card where it would do the ad conversion just in the sound card from like an analog port in. But I didn’t have any kind of audio interface that would help me out with it or, or any kind of like, digital recording device where I could capture the audio, and then edit it. So even back then I had like a copy of audition and a copy of some of the audio editing software that would help me like master the audio and put it up online. But I still had a terrible time trying to try to put all those pieces together. And now it’s just gotten way easier. So with this anchor.FM site, there’s a lot to it, where you can record just straight from your phone, or you can you can upload like an audio file, you can do some of the audio editing, like add music that they have rights to or add some of like the the bumper sounds that you would have for your intro and outro music for your your podcast. And there are also ways where you can use the service to connect to other people that are listeners where you can you have some, like have a listener call play in the podcast, and then you can answer it. So there’s kind of interesting ways where they sort of bring part of the community together, that’s their on anchor to, to kind of put together the podcast, so you would want to put those out. So I’ve been kind of reading over some stuff with it and seeing how that would work. Or if it would be convenient for me to use it in that way. I really like running everything through my WordPress page and through some of the plugins that I have there to publish the podcast that have up to a to a feed on my site. I just feel like I have more ownership of that. But like I was mentioning a minute ago, just you know, problems in the back end of running a WordPress site. There’s this sort of as the hiccups that can happen sometimes I think like the whole page was down for a couple of weeks, where you know, there wasn’t any podcast being served. So that can happen sometimes too. But it’s interesting, it kind of goes back and forth a little bit. And so I’m thinking that one of my podcasts that I do, I’m gonna probably try and serve through anchor, and there’s a lot of opportunities. I think with that we you can set it up where you can have that go out to your Alexa for the Alexa flash briefings, which I think is really interesting. I’ve been messing around with that in the past a little bit. I think this might be a good opportunity for or good method for me to publish to that. That platform. And then on top of that, it I guess like sets up a lot of the or it sends out the feeds to a lot of the locations. Like there’s iTunes The main one, you know, the one lot of people think of. But then on top of that, there’s like the Google Play Store, where there’s like the podcast store for Google Play now. And then there’s also Spotify, which has a lot of podcast content. And then there’s a few other places like, tune in radio and Stitcher Radio. And all of those places have a podcast located with them. And, and I guess, anchor does a good job of trying to get your, your podcast content out to each of those locations. So that you can, you can kind of get listeners from all those those spots, which is pretty cool. And I think that’s, it’s at least like a lot of work that you’d have to do, just on the back end, like when I was trying to set everything up on my own, it was a lot of work that you had to try and put together just to get your podcast listed in those locations. So it’s really cool that there’s an opportunity for that to kind of happen automatically now. And I hear that they’re, they’re taken off with a lot of a lot of the new podcasts that are made, are all made over. Within that service. I’m a big fan of owning the podcast content and you know, sort of having an opportunity where you get to kind of decide what happens with it or, you know, if God forbid, anybody, or you know, anchor ever goes out of business, there’s still like a way for you, you have you own, you control all the content that you’re making. And I think, you know, as it goes for my stuff, it’s easygoing enough, I’ll still have copies of it somewhere and it won’t really matter. I can move the feed wherever I want to. So it won’t really change too much of it. But but it’s just kind of interesting to, to figure it out over time and sort of see how it works. But yeah, I mean, I’m looking@anchor.fm I think there’s some cool stuff that they’re doing over there. So yeah, it’s kind of cool, been checking some some other technology stuff out to I think I was mentioned, or trying to set up this other podcast feed. So that’s going to be on a WordPress page or you know, through like a through like a plugin, it’s going to be self hosted. And we’re going to be like putting all the pieces together on that. And then I’ve also been trying to like, one of the big reasons is like, we’re trying to figure out kind of the studio equipment, like how do we record audio over here, I used to have like a pretty, pretty thorough audio recording studio set up in my own place. And so we’ve kind of moved that around a lot when now that we’ve been over here on the island. So a lot of that’s all set up back home in Oregon still.

But over here on the island, I’m trying to do stuff in a more mobile way. So there’s a there’s a few different pieces of technology that I picked up for that maybe I can talk about that more in-depth on one of these upcoming episodes at the photo podcast here. But But yeah, I’ll probably wrap it up there pretty soon, and hopefully, you guys had an okay time listening to this. If you want to get a hold of me. You can go to Billy Newman photo comm go to the About Me page. And there’s a contact form there where you can shoot me a message. I’m sure there’s there’s plenty of other places where you can find me, like on Instagram or Facebook or YouTube or something like that, and shoot me a message. But you should get ahold of me and let me know what kind of content you’re looking for out of this podcast around or what kind of questions you would have about maybe some of the things that I talked about today of setting up your own podcasts are different services you can use or some of the technology stuff that I can get into and some of these future episodes but but yeah, thanks a lot for listening to this episode of The Billy Newman photo podcast. Glad to be recording again. Thanks a lot. Have a good day.
