Eclipse Hunters

The Sun, fully eclipsed by the moon during last Sundays total annular eclipse   This was the first total solar eclipse that I have seen.  Very sureal experience, I will be posting more photos from this trip here with in the next several days.

Windmill

NIKON D2H 50mm, F/9, 1/800, ISO 200 September seems like it was so long ago now. I photographed this windmill in Eastern Oregon just south of Pendelton. There are miles and miles of rolling hills and grasslands.

Paintbrush Divide, Grand Tetons

Nikon D2H, 50mm, 1/125 @ F/5.6, ISO 400- Photo credit- Marina Hansen In this photo I am standing at the top of the Paintbrush Divide in the Grand Tetons. At 10,700 ft I am looking out over Wyoming and the weather that had already passed over us that day. This evening is one that I will remember for the rest of my life.

Another postcard from our campsite

This is the view just up from where camp is set up. Decided to stay an extra day in this area before rushing off to Canyonlands. Its taken almost a month, but I am finally starting to slow down and take my time in the places I’m at.

Camping in Sego Canyon, Utah

Petroglyphs in Sego Canyon, Utah I’m in Moab, Utah now. Nice place to be, everyone here seems to be riding a mountain bike. The weather is holding up well enough for the time. Just have to find a good place to camp for the night. Yesterday we drove from Salt Lake City, Utah to the Sego Canyon area, north of I 70 near the Arches, Canyonlands areas.  Pretty steady stormy weather all last night, with …

Popular Barn

This is probably one of the most photographed barns in the world. I took this photo just before sunrise a few mornings ago.  I have to say I like this photo, but it lacks some originality. Thats not always bad, but I don’t want to repeat something that everyone else is doing right next to me… at least, not with this type of photography.   here are a couple different photos that I took that …

The Tetons

Sunset at Jenny Lake,  I’ve been out of reliable Internet for a while now. For the past week I have been in Yellowstone National park and the Teton National Park camping and (trying) to make some photos.  Ill get to some of the stuff from Yellowstone in a later post but this will be all about the Tetons.  This has to be one of my favorite places. Its such an extreme landscape, I am happy …

Backpacking in the Wallowa Mountains

Ice Lake at Sunset  Backpacking the wallowas was an intense experience. I have gone backpacking before, and I am used to the outdoors but being by yourself in the mountains for a few days is a strange experience. The time was good. though. I had to hike in 9 miles to Ice Lake, about 5 miles of that seemed to be straight up hill.  Alpine camping in late September was pretty cold. I’m glad now …

Entering the Wallowas

Panorama of the Wallowa Mountains. Near Joseph Oregon.      I am in Joseph Oregon today, I am planning on being in this area for a couple of days. I am trying to take my time and look around the area a little bit.  My plan at this point is to hike back into those mountains in the next day or so. Im still trying to get the right maps and know for …

Postcard: Trillium Lake, Oregon

A photo from this morning at Trillium Lake, Looking at Mt. Hood to the North.  Currently sitting in a coffee shop near Zigzag Oregon. Drinking some coffee and editing some photos from this morning.  This is one of my favorites from trillium lake. The mist over the lake at sunrise was awesome, but made it difficult to photograph anything but fog.  I’m working with some simple symetric reflections in this image. I like it, but …

Underwater Footage from the Illinois River

Check out this test footage I shot on my ipod touch the last time I was at the Illinois River. I picked up a water proof case (more like a bag really). It works really well though. Now I want to try and shoot something a little more seriously.

Cascade Lakes

Robert and I took off the week before last and headed over to some of the Cascade lakes in the Three Sisters Wilderness area.  We Camped out that night, and spent the next day exploring the area. To much to see and do in just one day, but I can’t complain when my Tuesday is spent driving through backcountry highways, listening to Zepplin, and hiking around on a nice day. To more days like this. …

Spring Smith Rock photos

HDR panorama of Smith Rock, Taken before sunrise Did a pretty quick trip over to Smith Rock the weekend before last. I drove over Friday evening with my friend Justin and set up camp. Woke up before dawn the next morning and drove over to Smith Rock. Smith Rock is a really cool area. Justin and I arived just before 6:00 am; we were the first people in the park that day. It is a …

Morning Mist

Another day, another place, another sunrise.   This was taken at about 6:30 in the morning just after sunrise. I was driving to another location when I pulled over and took some photos by this pond.  I love the gold mist rising from the water in this image.

Sunrise

I ended up doing an all-nighter last Monday-Tuesday.  I stayed up to study for a midterm and I finished around 5 am.  I ended up grabbing my camera gear and I drove south of town before dawn.  It was a really beautiful April morning.  the (almost) full moon was setting in the west as I arrived. while I was there I spent some time taking a couple Panoramas of the landscape.        …

April Photo Hike

Spent some time Friday afternoon hiking through this medow with my camera gear. I was going for something kinda like the old windows xp default background. (bliss, if you remember) One of my goals this spring is to go on more hikes and outdoor trips, this was my “gear test” , making sure everything works alright and balancing out how much I really need in my hiking bag. Here are a couple photos I shot that …

Spring Break Road Trip

I spent the last few days on a road trip through northern California. I have to say that I had a really good time. Travelled light and cheap, and I feel like I went everywhere that I wanted to go.    I was lucky that I didn’t have to deal with too much snow over the course of the trip but 140 was kinda ruff for a bit.  On Monday I made it over to …

Le Tour De Franzia

A snapshot from my Ipod as we all left on our bikes to begin le tour de Franzia. I had a really good time at this last tour de Franzia, if you dont know what it is, its a bike ride where everyone is encouraged to dress in silly ridicoulous cloths and ride there bikes while drinking cheap boxed wine.  Its even more fun than it sounds like.  This video was shot, edited and uploaded …

New Photos from Newport

A Segal stands near the edge of the Ocean Friday afternoon.    This post will probably mostly photos from the trip (like usual, I dont like to write too much)  I went over to Newport Oregon last Friday to just get away for a bit. It was a really nice afternoon. The town of Newport did not seem to phased by the remnants of the tsunami that reached the Oregon coast that morning.   A quick …

College Collage

Over the past several weeks I have been taking a lot of photos for instagram. Instagram is a cool ipod/ Iphone app for making and sharing photos. None of them are individually cool enough for me to post but I thought I would make a little collage of some of the pics I have taken over the past two weeks.

OSU Dating Game

I was on the OSU Dating Game the other day on kbvr. Have to say I had a pretty good time. I was really embarrased… and I am sure I always will be. My friend Jeremy signed me up for the show a while back I guess as a prank? .  Check out the full video streaming here http://people.oregonstate.edu/~kempj/media/player.html?pl=http://www.archive.org/download/KbvrOsuDatingGame-February242011/DatingGame-S8-110224_512kb.mp4&type=video    (its not a broken link, Kbvr just takes a long time to start the video)

Dawn on the lake.

Dawn on the Lake         70mm: f/4.5: 1/60 sec   This is probably taken after dawn, but the story is that I left my place way early friday morning. Drove out to the wildlife refuge and walke up to the lake.  Camping out in a photoblind, waiting for the right light, with a few layers on and a cup of coffee is not a bad way for me to start my …

Meet my Fish!

Meet my new fish, he doesn’t have a name yet. Still cant think of one. Got him this last week. He is a crowntail beta. Got a bowl, got rocks (finaly) he was pretty grumpy when I first got him, looks like hes grown out of it.  I have him set up on my desk for the moment.

Photos from the past week

f/5 : 1/125 : ISO 200 I took this photo on the side of the road going south on 53rd street in Corvallis.  The mist was starting to settle for the night in the grove of trees in the background. The back light from the sun provided a cool look to this photo. Spent only a couple minutes playing with the composition with this post.    Rapids near Alsea Falls  f/10  : 1/10 sec : ISO 400 Almost got …

I love this!

Drawn by Marina Hansen (if your not clear, the cool blue drawing of me)   This is one of my new favorite things. I think that its the first time I have been artistically represented in a drawing. I immediately posted it to my photo board. It is sort of a personal project that I keep up by posting photos or things to it that were important to me. and this definitely counts 🙂
