Evergreen trees covered in ice after a freezing rain
Freezing rain is a very uncommon phenomenon. Eugene was hit by a freezing rain storm tearing aid December you years ago. Many trees were broken in the storm. Trees were down all over town. This photograph we drove to a forest at the hillside and looked across a valley. They look to me is very surreal as the trees and the rain fell and froze in place on the branches of the tree.
The additional hundreds of gallons of frozen rainwater that have stuck to the tree for multiple days added so much weight that the branches could not support the additional mass. This caused hundreds of shattered and cracked and split trees. During the last 30 years, I have been alive I’ve seen several strong snowstorms infrequently that I have never seen a freezing rain storm such as this.
