Sunset in Arizona

This driving north through Arizona, we drove down a long dirt road and took a handful of photographs of this storm cloud that stretched across the western landscape. The setting sun to the west brought a powerful warm stripe of color to the scene. I have been back home for just over a week now.  It’s great to be spending some time with my family for the holidays. Now is the time that I will be …

Finding Creativity 2

This image was taken years ago. I think it was sometime back in 2005.  By all accounts this photo was a mistake.  An image made by accident creating a dragged effect on the light as I moved my camera across the textured ground.   I found this photograph in my archives.  I have been recently going through my old images looking for common elements and colors.

Finding creativity 1

This image was made in Seattle in early in September. This photograph is part of a film project I have been working on for a few months.  The colors and the shapes add to a certain mood that I really like.  I will be starting an on going project here on my blog, I thing a little more structured.  I will be going back through some of my older photos, many of them are photos …

Halloween in San Francisco

I have yet to begin the process of sorting through photos from the past week of working living and camping around the city of San Francisco.  This city is [to date] my favorite. Something about it, something in the way that it feels to be there is just so cool. We stayed at the Marin Headlands for three days. It was great to be in the city the night that the Giants won the series. …

Backpacking along the Lower Rogue

This photograph of the rogue river was made Saturday evening looking out over blossom bar. Traveling along the Lower Rogue has been a great addition to our adventure. As I write this I am in my tent camped just up from blossom bar. Marina and I opted to skip out on 20 or so miles of hiking through rolling hills of scrub oak. Instead we drove the car up in the mountains along an old, …

Impressions from the Oregon Coast

This past weekend Marina and I spent a night camping on the Oregon Coast south of Newport. We had a great time enjoying the September weather on the coast. Saturday evening I worked on a few impressions of the sunset. I ended up liking this photo the most out of the series I shot.   I have been working on images that take advantage of the light just before and just after sunset.  I really like the …

Backpacking in the Wallowa Mountains.

Our  tent  near dusk at horseshoe lake in the Wallowa Mountains. Backpacking in the Wallowa Mountains is always an adventure.  I am very glad that I was able to return to the mountains this year.  It is a great adventure, and also an incredible struggle.  The remote scenic beauty however makes the entire struggle worth it.  It would be easy to say that Marina and I over packed for this excursion.  We carried to backpacking backpacks full …

Glow Wire Leisure Suit

I took this photo at the State of Jefferson HempExpo.  A couple guys designed some Glow Wire leisure Suites.  I had already lost a lot of light so I had the 2 guys stay really still for 5 seconds.  The long exposure helps pull up the ‘glow’ of the lights on their jackets.

Back to the Fifties Photos

This last weekend was the back to the fifties celebration in Grants Pass. One of the main events is a classic car cruise that runs through Downtown. I got down to the cruise after work and after the sun went down. I thought this would be a good opportunity to work on a technique called panning. For this picture I dropped the Sutter speed of the camera down to about 1/4 of a second and …

Applegate lake River Reflections

Evening reflections in the applegate river   This photo is a little bit outside of my normal style.  I photographed this in the reflections of the applegate river. The intense green color in the water comes from the reflection of the bright sun lit green trees.  The image had a cool strange sureal look to it.

Postcard from Cougar Reservoir

This photo was taken by a small creek near our camp at cougar reservoir, east of Eugene.  Spent a few good hours relaxing in the Hot springs, then spent most of our time avoiding lots and lots of rain.

Postcard from Crater Lake

Taken with my (not)GOpro, from the top of Crater Lake.  Im working on a series of panoramas from my time at crater lake right now.  They look good in camera. We will see if I can make something of it.   Spent the last 2 days at the Toketee Hot springs, taking pictures of water falls. Today and tomorrow I am back up in Corvallis for the Flat Tail festival, then hitting the road …

I’ve been busy this last week . Taking my time camping out in the Moab area. Camping by rim rock and sandstone canyons. Very happy that the weather has held up so well. Today it’s sunny and mid 70s. I’m writing this while sitting up on top of the ridge looking down to my camp below. Tomorrow I’m off to canyonlands. then starting the trip wrap up and heading back to Oregon. All of the …
