Home Recording Studio
I shot this in Scott and Robert’s home studio while they were tracking lyrics on a new project. The original color film image was shot in low light. It had strange color casts through the black tonal range, so I choose to convert the image into black and white. I had a great time hanging out and watching Robert and Scott work through the process of recording.
Creating a home recording studio is an interesting process. I appreciate that it takes a lot of technical experience to get the studio to work right. I have always been interested in using pieces of gear to create new things. This photograph was taken with the Nikon FG 20 film camera. The film was a color frame. In post-production, I converted the image to black-and-white. The original frame has a muddy, Brown look to it.
There was not enough light in the small cabin room that night to expose the 200-speed film correctly. To save that image I converted it to black and white. I cranked the contrast of the blacks and the white highlight points. I framed this image with a 50 mm lens. I was intentional with my composition. I tried specifically to capture the full body of the Gibson SG in the upper left corner. I tried to frame the two engineers at the mixing board and the cables off the mixing board to the right side of the frame.

I spent a lot of time in this homemade recording studio. I do have some photographs of it during the time that it was in existence in this room. I wish however that I created more images of the productions that occurred while recording in this studio.
