Sunset in the Alabama Hills.
I captured this photo in eastern California near the Alabama Hills. I remember that the sun was setting behind the Sierra Nevada around 3:30 PM while we were there in November 2012. The clouds turned a bright orange magenta giving the high desert landscape a warm glow.
For this photograph, sunset in the Alabama Hills, I used a Nikon FG 20 film camera. I had the camera outfitted with Fujifilm 400 speed film and a 50 mm 1.8 lens. I tried to focus 50% of my photography time on this film camera during this desert trip. The 400 speed Fujifilm does a good job exposing dynamic range. Details can be seen in both the copper magenta sunset clouds and the precipice of rock that is in the shadow.

In the Alabama Hills near the Sierra Nevada’s, the terrain around this area is covered in eroded sandstone mounds. The terrain was unique and unusual compared to a lot of the high desert in eastern California.
