Evergreen trees covered in ice after a freezing rain storm that hit Eugene in 2016.

Evergreen trees covered in ice after a freezing rain   Freezing rain is a very uncommon phenomenon. Eugene was hit by a freezing rain storm tearing aid December you years ago. Many trees were broken in the storm. Trees were down all over town. This photograph we drove to a forest at the hillside and looked across a valley. They look to me is very surreal as the trees and the rain fell and froze …

Finding creativity 1

This image was made in Seattle in early in September. This photograph is part of a film project I have been working on for a few months.  The colors and the shapes add to a certain mood that I really like.  I will be starting an on going project here on my blog, I thing a little more structured.  I will be going back through some of my older photos, many of them are photos …

Tide pool at sunset along the lost coast

This image was photographed in a tidal pool during sunset in northern California’s Lost Coast. This image was a challenge to create, but the incredible light made it easier than usual. For this image I rolled up the legs of m pants and stood in the center of this tidal pool.  I set up my tripod as low to the waters surface as I could. To get the soft still look of the water in …

Impressions from the Oregon Coast

This past weekend Marina and I spent a night camping on the Oregon Coast south of Newport. We had a great time enjoying the September weather on the coast. Saturday evening I worked on a few impressions of the sunset. I ended up liking this photo the most out of the series I shot.   I have been working on images that take advantage of the light just before and just after sunset.  I really like the …

Postcard from The Gorge

Right now I am currently working out of a Starbucks in Seattle near pikes place. We have been gone now for almost a week. I think I have put about 600 new miles on my vary old car and had [part of 😉 ] the best trip ever.  Dave Matthews was a great experience.  Ready to call myself a ‘DAVER’ like the temporary locals say.  This is my first time camping at the gorge, it still has …

Perseid Meteor Shower

Enjoying the Northern sky watching for shooting stars Sunday night:  ISO 200- 24mm- f 3.5 -5 minute exposure The city lights and haze from town sometimes get in the way of a dark summer sky  so I drove out of Grants Pass toward the Applegate valley.  I ended up in Provolt near some open field; I set up my chair, faced northeast and spent the night watching the shooting stars as constellations came up over the horizon.  I …

Back to the Fifties Photos

This last weekend was the back to the fifties celebration in Grants Pass. One of the main events is a classic car cruise that runs through Downtown. I got down to the cruise after work and after the sun went down. I thought this would be a good opportunity to work on a technique called panning. For this picture I dropped the Sutter speed of the camera down to about 1/4 of a second and …

Recap of the Oregon Country Fair

The Country fair was a really cool place to visit. This was my first experience with the fair but this place has to be one of the more unique events that I have gone to.   I was only able to attend the fair for 1 day, but I hope in next several years I will be able to stay for a few days.  This place is a really exciting and diverse location to photograph …

7/24 photography project- a return to film

This is the start of my film photography project. I have been really interested in creating photographs for over 5 years now. I love photography, I love creating images and sharing them but I am a photographer that came about in the digital age. That is in part why I wanted to start this project. Granted, my first camera was a 35 mm film camera, and with that the first year or so of my …

Applegate lake River Reflections

Evening reflections in the applegate river   This photo is a little bit outside of my normal style.  I photographed this in the reflections of the applegate river. The intense green color in the water comes from the reflection of the bright sun lit green trees.  The image had a cool strange sureal look to it.

Home for the Weekend

Horseshoes I am back home for the weekend, I came back into town to visit some friends and to get some work done on my internship project. I took some time this afternoon walking through my grandparents grape arbor and garden. Ive been there hundreds of times before, I have become so familiar with that place; I could walk through it with my eyes closed. Even the horseshoes hanging on the old post in the …

Girl at the Gum Wall

This is an image that I am pretty happy with.  I really do not have much experience with street photography, so I was happy when my film came back with a clear, focused and well exposed image here.  The girl was running to meet with the rest of her family down the hill.  I like the subject. I like the background, and I like how the rest of the elements in the image work together. …

Crater Lake

Crater Lake after sunset    I made this photograph after spending the day at crater lake.  Most of the park is still closed due to snow. I spent the afternoon walking around the lodge, checking out what trails and roads I could, and sitting on the hood of my car looking at maps of Oregon, planning out places I should go. This image was made using to graduated filters, a tobacco orange filter and a …
